The University of Pittsburgh's Small Business Development Center's (SBDC) mission is to develop and strengthen the businesses of Southwestern Pennsylvania by conveying timely knowledge and expertise through professional consulting, education and training programs. With strong market research and strategic planning, our team can help you launch your business.

We understand the tremendous impact that small businesses have upon the U.S. economy. Studies indicate that small businesses account for 50% or $3.3 trillion of the Gross Domestic Product and make up 92% of all U.S. businesses. The survival of these businesses is fundamental in ensuring the long-term health of our economy. Since the SBDC's inception in 1979, we have dramatically expanded our range of consulting services, training programs and access to funding sources for growing companies. Turn to our experienced and professional consultants for valuable assistance in taking that first step to your initial expansion.

You Said What?!?! The Things You Say Can Hurt You!

Have you ever regretted something you said in the office? It happens every day, and the wrong words too often lead to huge legal claims.

Whether it’s a soft sell of the reasons for termination or a shoot-from-the-hip reaction to an employee request or complaint, employers must recognize
the employment laws and regulations that can get them in trouble. This informative program is rich in tools, strategies and scenarios that will help you
recognize potential lawsuits before they happen.

Program leaders Laura A. Candris, senior counsel to Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP, and Sally Griffith Cimini, chairperson of the Employment and Labor services Group at Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir, P.C., have a combined 50 years of experience in employment and labor law.
